Diagnosis of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASDs) involves detailed review of your child’s history, a comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation, and a physical examination by medical professionals.
The clinicians at Goldfinch Neurobehavioral Services have expertise in the area of FASD and can complete the history review and neuropsychological evaluation needed for diagnosis.
We have also developed relationships with medical providers in the community who can complete the necessary physical examination. Let us give you the diagnostic clarification you need to find the right supports for your child.
What is the evaluation process?
STEP 1 – Contact Us
Contact us by phone (952-236-1267) or via the contact form. We will do a brief screening to ensure that we can meet your child’s needs and help you move to the next step, if appropriate.
STEP 2 – Complete Paperwork
Complete the intake paperwork via the patient portal or by mail. This allows us to prepare for your appointment in advance.
STEP 3 – Schedule Appointment
Schedule your appointment via the patient portal or by phone. Most school-aged children require one appointment the length of a school day.
STEP 4 – Attend Appointment
Attend your appointment. A legal guardian must be present with the child for the appointment. During the appointment we will conduct interviews, administer tests, and communicate the results to caregivers verbally.
STEP 5 – Follow-Up with Referrals
Follow-up with referrals as directed. If your child has not yet had a physical examination for FASD you will be provided with community referrals. Upon completion, your provider will share the results with us.
STEP 6 – Written Report
Obtain the written report. We will send you a detailed neuropsychological evaluation report approximately 2-4 weeks after your appointment. This report can also be sent to other providers at your request. If the physical examination has not yet been completed, we will update the report and send a new version with final diagnostic decisions upon receipt of the physical examination’s findings.
STEP 7 – Implement Treatment
Implement treatment recommendations and watch your child gain the support and confidence they need to grow!
STEP 8 – Schedule Follow-Up Evaluations
We will contact you to schedule follow-up evaluations as recommended by your provider to ensure your child continues to thrive. You can also contact us for re-evaluation prior to major life transitions, when growth plateaus, or when new obstacles emerge. We will be happy to help!
